I've come to dread the month of May.
The fifth flip of the calendar has been quite unkind to me in recent years. Except for the death of my mother, my most gut-wrenching, soul-challenging, devastating moments seem to have concentrated themselves there. Things once built and blessed by other months have been shattered and sacrificed in the late spring.
2003. 2006. 2007.
Thankfully, it seems that 2008 has not added much to that trend. I hope that 2009 is as fortunate and that no other month assumes the mantle. The legacy of recent Mays past is more than enough.
