"Letting the days go by..."

I've had a mild obsession the last couple of days with Talking Heads' "Once in a Lifetime." I was really just listening to it because I think it's catchy, but then a lyric I usually glazed over hit me from out of nowhere...

Time isn't holding up
Time isn't after us

I'm not entirely convinced that I'm not putting too much into it. The first line is simple enough (though a bit of a double entendre), but the second's just blown me away. Damn, that's deep.
